Arriving mid-morning we have time to unpack and setup camp.  We now have time to discover Birdsville. Situated on the edge of the Simpson Desert & just 14 Kms from the South Australian border it is rich in Australian folklore and home to Aussie icons like the Birdsville pub and Birdsville Track. The pub dates back to 1884 with views of the vast Simpson Desert sand dunes. Why not have a drink while here and don’t forget to ask how the Green Lizard Bar got its name. We may like to check out Wolfgang John’s Blue Poles Art Gallery.  Don’t forget your black tie or hat for the races because it’s time to saddle up and head for the races. At the conclusion of the race meet our coach will transfer us back to the campsite where the night is ours to mix with locals and other visitors alike and enjoy the atmosphere of this iconic outback event.  (Meals at own expense)
